Avowed Optimized Settings for Low-end PC: RTX 3060, RTX 3060 Ti & RTX 4060

Avowed has been out on PC and Xbox Series consoles for a week. The game leverages the Unreal Engine 5, heavily utilizing Nanite to render the Living Lands. It also uses Virtual Shadows. These two tend to be VRAM hogs, but Obsidian has found a way around it. The PC port features hardware ray tracing for even higher-quality lighting at a decent cost. Here’s our Avowed optimization guide for low-end PCs.

Windows/System Settings to Optimize

  • Enable Resizable BAR.
  • Turn on Game Mode.
  • Enable Hardware-accelerated GPU Scheduling (HAGS) and Windowed Optimizations.
  • Use the Windows “High Performance” power profile and set your GPU power management mode to the same.
  • Disable Memory Integrity. Windows Menu->VBS->Device Security.
  • Ensure you use the proper XMP/EXPO memory profile (if available).
  • Overclock your GPU if you’re narrowly missing the 60 FPS mark.
  • Here’s a guide with more detailed instructions.

Avowed: Low-end Benchmarks

Avowed runs extremely well on low-end builds, courtesy of well-implemented upscaling and frame generation. FSR 3-based frame generation can be enabled by adding the following lines of code to the “engine.ini” file located in C\Users\AppData\Local\Alabama\Saved\Config\Windows (or WinGDK):

[SystemSettings]

r.FidelityFX.FI.Enabled=1

r.FidelityFX.FSR3.Enabled=1

r.FidelityFX.FSR3.UseNativeDX12=1

Enable FSR 3 in-game for frame generation on older RTX GPUs.

We recorded an average of 69 FPS at the epic quality settings, including ray tracing with quality-mode upscaling and frame generation. Despite the input framerate being less than 60 FPS, the lows remained stable at 50 FPS 1% percentile FPS.

VRAM Usage & CPU Bottlenecks

Avowed used 6.5 to 7 GB of graphics memory using the graphics settings mentioned at 1080p. The system memory consumption hovered between 8.5 GB and 9 GB.

The game was GPU-bound with a 0% busy deviation which is usually the case with frame generation.
