Best Rust Settings for Low-end PC (2025): RTX 3060, RTX 4060 & RX 6600

Rust is the most popular survival MMO on PC. With a daily concurrent player count of 130K, it is counted alongside the likes of GTA V, PUBG, and Apex Legends. We explored the highly customizable graphics menu of the game in our optimization guide which includes several options to customize the shadows, draw distance, and mesh complexity. This mini-guide covers Rust’s performance on low-end PCs.

Windows/System Settings to Optimize

  • Enable Resizable BAR.
  • Turn on Game Mode.
  • Enable Hardware-accelerated GPU Scheduling (HAGS) and Windowed Optimizations.
  • Use the Windows “High Performance” power profile and set your GPU power management mode to the same.
  • Disable Memory Integrity. Windows Menu->VBS->Device Security.
  • Ensure you use the proper XMP/EXPO memory profile (if available).
  • Overclock your GPU if you’re narrowly missing the 60 FPS mark.
  • Here’s a guide with more detailed instructions.

Rust: Low-end Benchmarks

Following the Feb 2025 update, Rust performs much better on budget hardware. The GeForce RTX 3060 averages over 60 FPS at the maximum quality graphics settings. The only setting that needs to be reduced is “LOD BIAS.” It’s best left between 1.5 to 3, depending on your CPU.

VRAM Usage and CPU Bottlenecks

Rust uses a ton of VRAM at higher-quality settings. The GeForce RTX 3060 recorded an average graphics memory consumption of over 11 GB at 1080p and 1440p. Luckily, if you’re on an 8 GB card, the game dynamically adjusts the VRAM allocation to the buffer size.

1080p Optimized

Rust is well-optimized for multi-core CPUs, and remains GPU-bound on most systems. We recorded a GPU-Busy deviation of 5-10% on the Ryzen 5 5600 using our mixed high/very-high settings combo.
