Best Settings for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on the Steam Deck: Graphics, Framerates & Battery Life

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is out on Steam and Epic Games. With a “Mostly Positive” reception, the game peaked at 31.6K concurrent players, making it the 26th most popular game on the Steam Deck (52nd overall). We’ve already tested its individual settings, recommending the optimal settings for different PCs. Here’s how Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth performs on the Steam Deck.

Graphics Settings

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth achieves a stable 30 FPS using a mix of low and medium quality settings. The game delivers a consistent experience at 720p (1280×720) using temporal upscaling or TAAU. The minimum dynamic resolution scaling needs to be set to 66% and the maximum to 100%. This is the equivalent of DLSS/FSR “Quality” mode upscaling.

The Background Model Detail can be set to medium, while the remaining settings, including shadow, fog, texture, effects, ocean, and character detail have to be reduced to low quality. The Characters Displayed and Character Shadow Distance work best between 2-4.

Performance and FPS

Using the above settings, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth averages 30 FPS on the Steam Deck. Increasing the Resolution Scaling to 100% reduces the framerate to 25 FPS. This is still playable and results in slightly higher visual quality, but many folks will prefer the 30 FPS experience.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is largely GPU-bound on the Steam Deck with utilization of over 90%. CPU utilization hovers between 60% and 80%. The system memory usage averages 11 GB, while the VRAM usage approaches the 6 GB mark.

Visuals and Battery Life

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth looks decent on the Steam Deck and delivers stable framerates. However, the use of dynamic resolution scaling results in slightly blurry visuals. Fortunately, it’s passable as a handheld experience. The game lasts roughly 2.5 hours on a full charge.
